It’s All About The Hype

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a great week so far.

It’s funny how sometimes the first time you watch something it seems like a mind-blowing masterpiece but when you watch it again, it’s like… meh. I remember seeing the Little Mermaid again and how my adult mind criticized a lot of the movie and its concepts of love. Ariel’s obsession with being something other than what she is drove her to make a ridiculous trade with a witch. This can be seen on another level: how people starve themselves or go under the knife to become something they are not. And I personally think the prince had a serious savior complex for him to fall in love in such a short period of time with someone that he had never even had a proper conversation with. Their only connection seemed to be based on him saving her from, I guess, living on the beach. Although I rolled my eyes over almost every scene, I was still in awe of it. It was so well made and I still love the songs. I was thoroughly entertained all through.

The same cannot be said for all movies though. I recently saw American Hustle and I settled in for what I remembered was an amazing movie. I did this to study the story structure of the movie. But like half an hour into it and I found it dull and found my mind drifting off a lot. I kept saying to myself, ‘come on you loved this movie! It was amazing’ needless to say it was hard to finish. It had such amazing actors, and the filming was beautiful, it just wasn’t… entertaining. Sometimes it’s the hype at the time that injects false enthusiasm for a show or a movie, and in this case, I guess for me that was the case.

Can we just talk about Bradley cooper’s character for a moment?! That idiot assaulted his boss and still had a job to come back to? Plus he crossed the line too many times with his witness, in this Me-Too era he would have been eaten alive! As much as I actually hated his character, I felt bad for him in the end when everything was turned against him.

Have you seen American Hustle? Or watched a film that you loved and found it boring? If so please drop a comment below.

P.s. it’s sad that as messed up as the relationships in both Ariel and American Hustle were, it doesn’t come close to how bad things are between the two couples on Blue Therapy. I spoke about the show last week and they have released another episode since then. Unfortunately, things get even worse, and all you are left with is screaming at the screen asking why the hell these people are still together!

With the end of #mermay coming fast, I thought to end the month with the mermaid Disney princess, Ariel.

Thank you for spending time with me today and I hope you’ll be back here again next week Wednesday. Have a great rest of the week!
